How to Make a Professional Footballer CV: Complete Guide 2026

How to Make a Professional Footballer CV: Complete Guide 2026

Your sports CV is the first impression a club, scout, or agent has of you. Before they see you play, before they analyze your video, before they speak with your coach — the first thing they will see is your profile. And if that profile is not well crafted, they probably won't move to the next step.

A footballer CV is not a traditional job resume. Your education or office experience doesn't matter. What matters is who you are as a player: your position, physical data, club history, statistics, highlight video, and how to contact you. All in a clear, professional document that's easy to read in 30 seconds — because that's how much time a sporting director spends before deciding whether to keep reading or move on.

In this article, I explain exactly what to include, how to structure it, what mistakes to avoid, and how to make your CV work for you 24/7.

Who benefits from a footballer CV?

It's not just for elite players. A sports CV is useful in many situations:

• Youth players seeking entry to an academy or development program
• Academy players looking for loans, transfers, or new opportunities
• Semi-professional players aiming to step up to a professional league
• Free agents seeking trials or contracts
• Players emigrating who need to explain their career to clubs in another country
• Any player contacting a club, agent, or scout

If you're looking for opportunities in football, you need a sports CV. Period.

The perfect structure: the 10 sections

The player profile: 3 lines worth gold

The profile is the first thing a scout reads after your basic data. It must answer three questions in no more than 3-4 lines:

What type of player are you? Your position, style, main characteristics.

What is your most impactful achievement? Something with numbers: goals, matches, titles.

What can you contribute? Not what you need from the club — what the club gains by signing you.

Physical data: what they look at first

Before your statistics, a scout looks at your biometric data. Include at minimum:

• Height (in cm)
• Weight (in kg)
• Strong foot (right, left, both)

If you have physical test data, add it: 30-meter sprint speed, endurance tests (Yo-Yo or Cooper), vertical jump. These data tell the scout if your physical profile fits what the team seeks. A center-back at 1.75 m has a different market than one at 1.90 m — not better or worse, just different.

Club history: career matters

List your clubs in reverse chronological order (most recent first). For each club, include:

• Club name and country
• League or division
• Season(s)
• Matches played
• Goals and/or assists (depending on your position)
• Relevant achievements with that club

Highlight video: the indispensable complement

Your CV without video is like a restaurant without a menu. The video is what turns interest into action: after reading your CV, the scout will want to see you play.

Ideal duration: 3-5 minutes. Best moments first — don't save the best for last because the scout probably won't get there.

Content: Plays that showcase your main strengths. If you're a forward, goals and finishes. If a midfielder, key passes and vision. If a defender, tackles, interceptions, and ball progression. Also include 1-2 full matches as additional links — for scouts who want to dig deeper.

Format: Upload it to YouTube (unlisted or public), Vimeo, or a professional platform. Include the link in your CV. If you use a platform like Futbol CV, your video is integrated directly into your profile along with all your data, statistics, and contact info.

How to distribute your CV

Having a good CV is not enough if no one sees it. These are the most effective ways to distribute it:

Direct sending to clubs. Research which clubs are looking for players of your profile. Find the sporting director or recruitment contact. Send a brief, professional email with your CV attached (or link to your online profile) and video link. Don't send generic emails — personalize each message explaining why you fit that club.

Contact licensed agents. Verify they have a valid FIFA license and send them your CV with a concrete proposal. Agents receive dozens of CVs weekly — yours must stand out.

Professional platforms. Platforms designed to connect players with clubs, agents, and scouts are the most efficient way to keep your profile visible 24/7.

Trials and tournaments. Bring a printed version of your CV to every trial, tournament, or training where scouts are present. Hand it personally to the coach or scout after your participation.

Professional social networks. LinkedIn is underestimated in football but works — especially for contacting sporting directors and scouts. Publish your profile, share your video, and position yourself as a serious professional.
